Finished in an antique stone color, this small wall relief is a reproduction of a Mayan original located in Yaxchilan, Mexico. The original dates to 755 A.D. and depicts the Mayan Vision Serpent. During Mayan bloodletting rituals, participants experienced visions of gods and deities. The Vision Serpent was their gateway to the spirit realm and thought to be the vehicle by which the gods made themselves known to humanity. The god who was being contacted could be seen rising from the Serpent's mouth.
