The Egyptian goddess, Selket, is represented as a woman with a scorpion atop her head. The scorpion is depicted with its tail raised, ready to sting! For this reason, Selket was thought to provide healing and protection against venom and poisonous bites. Selket was also seen as a protector of embalmers' tents.
In this brilliant gold colored statue, Selket stands with her arms outstretched and one can easily spot the scorpion that sits poised on her head. This statue measures 8.25 inches tall, 5 inches wide, 3.5 inches deep. Selket stands atop a built-in black base. It is a reproduction of a New Kingdom statue now on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
