Rodin's sculpture, Eternal Springtime, was made around 1916-7 and it was modeled around 1884. It was originally intended for a separate piece, The Gates of Hell, which depicts a scene from Dante's Inferno. However, the euphoria of the subjects did not quite fit The Gates' darker themes and so it was left out of the final piece. Eternal Springtime was extremely popular, and Rodin repeated it often both in marble and in bronze.
