Seasoned blocks of teak or sheesham wood are the primary tools of this art. Using a pencil, the printer traces designs on the smooth underside and carves out motifs with a simple hammer and chisel. The blocks are dipped into dye and then used to stamp out designs on the prepared fabric – an arduous, painstaking labor of love.
