Cultural Description / Significance
Pipestem was popular in the Qing Dynasty that lasted from 1644 to 1911. Used by the nobles to smoke the pipestem were made of many materials. Chinese artisans experimented with horn, ivory, jade, porcelain, as well as other enamels, resulting in a striking work of art.
