Product Description
Placed on tables or atop cabinets, the Hsun-ok makes an exotic accent piece. Gold leaf embellishment adds extraordinary artistic beauty to this exquisite temple jar. The gilding is created by applying small tissue thin squares of gold leaf which is panned from the rivers of northern Burma. The intricate design is then carved out of the gold leaf. This Temple jar measures about 17 inches in height.
Cultural Description / Significance
In Burma (now called Myanmar), the most graceful lacquer ceremonial vessel is the Hsun-ok, used for centuries to carry gifts of food as offerings to the Buddhist monasteries. The finial at the top echoes the shape of the Buddhist stupa or spiritual monument that is a symbol of an enlightened mind and the path to its realization.
