Cultural Description / Significance
Kashmir once known as 'paradise on earth' has highly gifted craftsmen who specialize in an embroidery style known as "aari" work. In this kind of embroidery, a fine hook is used to create floral or creeper designs using chain stitch. Rows of fine chain stitches form an array of motifs which are a unique blend of artistic skills and creative ideas. This craft though originated in Kashmir, migration of local artists along with the modern tools have led this art form to spread to other parts of the country.
